The City of Mississauga has agreed to remove Indigenous-themed mascots and logos from arenas and other facilities when used by non-aboriginal sports teams.
The action is part of a mediated settlement before the province's human rights tribunal.
The complainant, Bradley Gallant, calls the deal a very good step.
The aboriginal business consultant says the use of such names and imagery was offensive.
He says the use of native mascots is a human rights issue because it's the result of racist attitudes.
Gallant named five minor hockey teams, as part of his complaint. They included; The Meadowvale Mohawks, The Mississauga Braves, The Mississauga Chiefs, The Mississauga Reps and the Lorne Park Ojibwa.
The city has not commented on the deal.
