Mississauga is soon to get a facelift, or at least one part of it will.
The Lakeview lands, where a coal fired power plant once stood, are going up for sale.
The Lakeview Generating Station and the four sisters have long since been demolished and the huge property has been essentially vacant.
On Tuesday, provincial finance minister Charles Sousa announced the 177-acre property would be put up for sale, with an aim to repurpose the site.
The goal is to create a vibrant communuity featuring six new neighbourhoods, significant green space and a new publically accessable waterfront.
"The view of the lake was never had, and now we have an opportunity to turn the pack and put it up for sale." said Sousa to NEWSTALK 1010.
67-acres of the property won't be sold though, instead the waterfront property will be donated to the City of Mississauga.
"We have a pier that is the size of the CN Tower, on it's side. That's how long that deep-water pier is. This is a great opportunity for us." said Sousa.
Ontario Power Generation will be accepting bids for the next 60 days, but only to developers who are willing to buy under the conditions that the province has laid out.
In the end, the hope is to have a cultural mix, with a greater public access to the waterfront.
