Police in Peel Region believe they've caught the suspect behind a string of thefts that targeted owners of pick-up trucks.
31-year old Michael Pizzardi of Mississauga is charged with 14 counts of Mischief Endangering Life in connection with 12 incidents between November and December.
Peel Regional Police constable Harinder Sohi says the thefts would be carried out in hotel and commuter parking lots in the Highway 401 and Mississauga Road area.
Authorities put out a warning last week after reports started piling up about vehicles being tampered with.
Allegations are the suspect would get under GMC and Dodge pick-up trucks to remove the rear differential plate.
The components are valuable on the black market when the metals inside are broken down and sold.
What makes removing them so dangerous is that it causes transmission lubricant to leak, preventing it from reduction friction on the gears.
That can cause a truck's transmission to fail, resulting in the vehicle coming to a sudden stop.
A driver would not have any idea that something was wrong until it was too late.
Pizzardi's bail hearing was scheduled for earlier this week.
