Former Ontario Liberal cabinet minister and current MPP Mitzie Hunter is joining the race to become the next party's leader and rebuild it after getting trounced in the last provincial election.
"I have the background and experience to lead the Ontario Liberal Party and to take Doug Ford and his Conservatives out of Queen's Park," she said in Scarborough to supporters.
Hunter was one of just seven Liberals to retain her seat in the last election, as Ford took power.
Colleague Michael Coteau is also in the race, along with former Liberal transportation minister Steven Del Duca.
Hunter said despite the brutal loss, there's reason to be optimistic, but it'll take hard work.
"I believe our party has strong and deep roots and I believe we need to revitalize and renew the party," she told reporters. "Our party is certainly in need of revitalization and that's what we're about."
