Toronto Public Health is now confirming that eight people have died at a Scarborough nursing home, from complications related to COVID-19.
Two of the deaths at Seven Oaks on Neilson and Ellesmere, had been reported earlier, and public health officials reported six new deaths overnight on Tuesday.
In all, there are 23 confirmed cases of the virus at the long-term care home, with 54 more probable cases.
Among those infected, include nine staff members.
And when it comes to the people who died, Toronto Public Health spokesperson Dr. Elizabeth Rea, the Associate Medical Officer of Health, says they range in age from their 60's to their 90's. Six of the eight people who died, were over the age of 85.
This comes as two more residents of a long-term care home dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, have died.
Fourteen residents and the spouse of a resident of Pinecrest Nursing Home have now died amid what the local health unit is calling the largest COVID-19 outbreak in the province.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has said at least 24 staff members are also infected.
