Several indoor soccer leagues in Stoney Creek, Ontario, are scrambling to find new recreation facilities for more than three thousand players, after a medical marijuana producer purchased the popular Players Paradise sports complex.
The venue, which on its website notes it has 72 thousand square feet of turf field and serves close to half a million visitors annually, has been serving the community for nine years.
There are reports that a private real estate firm approached them about the sale.
Hamilton city councillor Maria Pearson says she's been getting emails and calls from residents who are just beside themselves believing that the city allowed this to happen. But Pearson says it's out of their hands.
"Unfortunately, it is out of the city's control because it is a private property."
She later added, "Various clubs throughout the city are working on fitting them in programs over the next while."
Green Relief, the company that bought the facility, reportedly plans to employ about a hundred people once they are up and running.
Players Paradise will shut down on October 31st.
