A 32-year old mother from Vaughan is facing charges, accused of driving drunk with a nine-year-old child in the car, while her three-year-old was left home alone.
York Regional Police were called Sunday evening to the Bathurst and Highway 7 area for reports of a suspected impaired driver. Witnesses reported an SUV swerving all over the road and hitting the curb.
Police allege officers found the driver with open beer cans in the car. The child was not wearing a seatbelt.
They say the investigation revealed the driver was heading home to the three-year old. The preschooler was found by officers alone, but in good health in the home.
The children were handed over to their father and the Children's Aid Society is investigating.
