There's no more panic after a placenta and birth instruments were found in a Mississauga park, prompting a police investigation, now that a mother has come forward saying those items were put there intentionally for holistic reasons.
On Tuesday, police were searching for a mother and her baby after the discovery in Super Maple Woods Park on Monday, including drones and the canine unit.
Peel Regional Police Cst. Danny Martini said after the mother's family saw the news coverage, she quickly called police.
"It was part of a natural birth that she'd had a year ago actually and she had held onto to those items for holistic purposes and then yesterday, decided that was the day to return it back to nature," she said.
Martini said while this is certainly a unique case, there are many different holistic practices when it comes to childbirth, although this one is not recommended.
"We don't want people putting these items out there because anyone could find it and then it causes this large investigation when really, there would've been another way to deal with it and we wouldn't have to be involved at all and everyone would still be okay," she said.
Martini couldn't say if there was a specific reason this park was selected.
"It was maybe close to the area in which they regularly attend, but they did just say that they knew it was time and they had to return it back to nature," she said. "Her day wasn't scheduled to come in and spend some time with us, but as long as everybody's okay, that really was the main focus."
The mother and baby are both in good health.
