Mount Pleasant Cemetery has locked its gates indefinitely over concerns about physical distancing.
The lush, midtown cemetery is a popular spot for runners, dog-walkers and cyclists, especially as winter thaws into spring and summer. That is a problem during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On twitter, area councillor Josh Matlow wrote that "too many people walking there were not adhering to safe physical distancing".

"They're being idiots," Matlow told NEWSTALK 1010's sister station CP24 Thursday night. "They're not considering the lives and well-being of other people and the Mount Pleasant Cemetery had to make a decision due to that misbehaviour."
In a brief statement on its website the Mount Pleasant Group says the decision was not made lightly but had become necessary.
People will be allowed to attend burials, cremations and other services as well as to make deliveries and keep essential appointments.
