The wet weather clearly played havoc causing slick roads and some dangerous conditions for pedestrians Thursday night. A handful were struck during the evening rush hour.
The most serious was at Yonge st. and Eglinton Ave. around 5:30 p.m. when a female in her 40's was struck by a TTC bus. She was rushed to a trauma centre with serious head injuries,
but later her injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening.
The intersection was closed in both directions to traffic for approximately two hours while Toronto police investigated.
According to Const. Rob Reid, a Peel Paramedic services vehicle just happened to be driving through the area at the time of the accident and quickly tended to the injured pedestrian.
"They were absolutely the first on scene within minutes and fortunately they were there to help her out."
That was one of 9 pedestrian struck incidents reported in the GTA Thursday evening, Reid pointing to the weather and early darkness as key contributors.
" The visibility is difficult at the best of times this time of year and when you add the rain and everydoy has their shoulders up around their ears when they're walking, drivers not paying attention you have the recipe for tragedy."
All of these collisions resulted in minor injuries, but one of those pedestrians struck was also taken to hospital.
Police have warned motorists to drive according to the weather conditions.
