The city's music industry is asking council to extend last call to help the scene grow in Toronto, and to help venues stay open for business.
Spencer Sutherland, a nightclub owner and chair of the city's music industry advisory council, tells NEWSTALK 1010's Jim Richards that music venues are having a difficult time right now and allowing them to stay open past 2 a.m. would help them stay afloat.
His group will ask the economic development committee on Monday to tell staff to study the city's night life and economy.
The council is not requesting a specific time for last call, and Sutherland says staff can look at whether it would be beneficial to allow later hours in certain pockets of the city.
He adds that they're not simply asking for a later last call, but a strategy to better manage the night-time economy.
"Toronto has been trying to become more of a music city," he says.
