The provincial Liberals are out with a new campaign promise; a re-elected Liberal government, would recall the legislature right after the election, and introducer back-to-work legislation to end the 3-month strike at York University.
That comes as a response to the promise by NDP leader Andrea Horwath, who suggested a New Democratic government would never use the legislation to force workers back on the job.
She says she would let strikes carry on, until a negotiated settlement was reached.
"It's impractical, obviously. I mean you can't have one-rule-fits-all situations." says labour lawyer Robert Taylor.
"Don't forget, the government has to rule in the best interests for everybody, and not just one group or another. Here the NDP are clearly pandering to the unions." admits Taylor.
But he does say there's no other way, other than the back-to-work legislation, to force and end to a strike.
He tells NEWSTALK1010, it's a negotiated settlement or the legislation.
