A neighbour tells NEWSTALK 1010 she lives in fear of a man now charged in connection with the death of a woman believed to be his mother.
Toronto Police were called to a home on Bathgate Dr, near Lawrence Ave E and Meadowvale Rd at about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. Inside, they found a woman in her 60s with what is described as "severe trauma". She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 40s who lives at the same address was arrested. While police haven't clarified their relationship, neighbours say the man is the victim's son. The homicide squad is handling the case.
A woman who lives closeby who did not want to share her name tells NEWSTALK 1010 the victim use two canes to get around and would often show up on her doorstep trembling.
"She had to come and beg me to use the phone and that's when I realized how bad it was," the neighbour said while choking back tears. "I'm scared when she comes here, because he's seeing her come here."
The woman describes blocking her own phone number when calling the victim's home to check up on her. But there was never an answer.
She says in the warmer months the son would scream a woman's name at the top of his lungs, but she isn't sure who's name it was. Police were at the home every few months.
