New information in the death of Francesca Matus and her American boyfriend in Belize.
It's been revealed that Matus was subjected to threats in the days leading up to her disapearance. Police are calling them "open threats" and make a point of saying they were not threats against her life. And the threats were only made to Matus, not the boyfriend.
Police now say they have a 'person of interest' in custody, and are questioning him. But they aren't calling him a suspect just yet.
The bodies of 52-year-old Matus and 36-year-old Drew Thomas De Voursey were found in a sugar cane field on Monday afternoon. They were reported missing on Tuesday, after leaving a bar around 11pm local time.
We've since learned that their bodies were partially decomposed and their wrists bound with duct tape.
Police won't say if the person in custody is a local, an ex-pat or a tourist.
As for a motive, cops continue to look at all angles including robbery, jealousy or even a real estate deal gone bad.
And they are also looking into the prospect that this may have been carried out by more than one person, since De Voursey was a 6'6" former Marine, who would have put up a significant fight.
But as of right now, this case appears to be a long way from being solved.
