There are renewed concerns about the cost and availability of daycare in Toronto.
According to a report from city staff, more than 3,000 new spaces may never be built because of cuts by the province.
The spaces were approved by the previous liberal government, which had promised to build and operate 51 new child care centres in the city by the fall of 2022.
The Ford government now says it'll pay to build them, but only if the city comes up with the money to operate them by the end of August.
Meanwhile, city staff are also warning that the cost for daycare inside Toronto schools could be headed up.
These centres receive a subsidy from the city that is set to expire at the end of the year.
The money helps cover the cost of renting space in schools, something not covered under the provincial funding model.
The Toronto District School Board has warned the child care operators that if the city funding is cut, they'll have to cover the cost to lease the space.
