A cop in Niagara region accused of trying to kill his police partner will walk free as his case goes through the courts.
A judge in St. Catharines ruled on Thursday that because Niagara Regional Police Det.-Sgt. Shane Donovan was lawfully carrying a firearm on the day he's accused of firing it at his colleague, and because of the officer's character and connections to the community, he isn't likely to be a risk to the public.
Donovan is charged with attempted murder.
Allegations are late last November he shot his partner 3 times in the heat of a fight that broke out between the pair while they were on duty.
The other officer was seriously hurt.
