When you have an airport so close to downtown, you can expect that some people will complain.
That's been the case with The Billy Bishop Island Airport in Toronto.
In 2017, there were more than 270 noise complaints filed against the airport. Since then, the airport has been taking steps to make sure they are good neighbours, and keeping the noise down.
From those who live on the islands, new flight paths, that alter the travel of the plane away from land, have meant fewer noise complaints from Algonquin and Ward's Islands. Complaints have dropped by 36 and 53%, respectively.
However, with some of the good, comes some of the bad. Complaints from the Bathurst Quay neighbourhood have gone up.
Ports Toronto is expected to conduct a ground noise assessment study this year, to see what can be done to quiet things down even further.
