Shocking stats out from Toronto Police.
So far in 2018, there have been 28 shootings, compared to 18 at this point last year. That amounts to a 55% increase.
While we're only three weeks into the new year, there have already been three deaths, compared to one in the same time period a year ago.
The number of shootings is also the second highest it's been in the last five years. We haven't seen this many shootings since 2016, when there was 29 in the same time period.
If you look at the number of people hurt this year, there have been 38 injuries among the 28 shooting instances.
When asked for a comment, Toronto Police spokesperson Mark Pugash would only say the amount of time passed, is not long enough to establish a trend.
