UPDATE: Court documents obtained by NEWSTALK 1010 indicate that the charges against Loredana Araya were withdrawn on November 8, 2018, at the request of the Crown.
Toronto police have arrested a nurse who was providing home care to patients, alleging that she was stealing medication.
Investigators allege that between August and December 2015, and again in October of last year, the woman entered patients' homes and asked them to see their medication.
Police claim she would then leave, taking the medication with her.
Det. Rich Petrie says these were painkillers, including oxycontin and morphine.
She allegedly stole medication from homes in Etobicoke and Mississauga, on five occasions.
Petrie says the woman worked with a home care company, but her employment was terminated at the end of 2015.
47-year-old Laura Araya of Brampton has surrendered to police. She has been charged with five counts of breaking and entering to commit theft, and five counts of being in a home unlawfully. Police say Araya provides home care to patients.
