It appears to be a case of not slowing down fast enough to avoid a collision and it cost a Toronto woman her life.
The collision involved 3 cars on the Eastbound lanes of the 401 near Islington avenue just after 1:15 a.m. this morning.
According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, as the three approached a construction zone, the trailing vehicle ran into the other two setting off a chain reaction.
" Traffic was apparently slowing, a vehicle that came into that area was unable to slow in time. Collided with a vehicle that was travelling very slowly , pushing forward into another vehicle that was about stopped."
The victim, a 32-year-old Toronto woman, was in the back seat in one of the two cars that were hit but and did not survive.
" Was transported to hospital and while en route to hospital with life-threatening injuries, she succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced deceased."
Schmidt said that the female victim was from the Toronto area and was in the back seat of the vehicle with her husband. He said that both parties had their seatbelts on at the time.
“At this point no charges have been laid but we are still investigating. We will be speaking with the drivers this morning,” he said.
The driver of one of the vehicles suffered minor injuries.
