The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a suspect was shot during an attempted home invasion in Scarborough Friday night.
The SIU says police got a call just after 11:00 p.m. Friday about a home invasion at a residence on Benshire Drive in the McCowan Road and Lawrence Avenue East area.
Officers arrived and saw saw a number of people fleeing into Bendale Junior Public School.
One officer fired his weapon and a 25-year-old man was struck. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Toronto police initially said two officers were injured during the incident, but SIU spokesperson Jason Gennaro, who spoke to the media at the scene, said he does not believe any officers sustained injuries.
Gennaro said "We are looking for surveillance video. We are asking anyone who may have video, if they would provide it to us."
Five investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to investigate this incident.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
