Ontario is reporting four new cases of COVID-19 as officials investigate the possibility of the community spread of the virus.
One of the new cases is in an oncologist at Hamilton's Juravinski Cancer Centre. Hamilton Health Sciences says the doctor had recently returned from a trip to Hawaii and started experiencing symptoms. The woman in her 30s worked with cancer patients on Monday afternoon. Hamilton Health Sciences says those patients and the woman's colleague are being contacted.
She is now in self-isolation at home.
Officials are expected to provide more details about the oncologist and possible exposure at 1 p.m.
The other newly-confirmed cases are in a Toronto man in his 30s who recently travelled to the U.S., a 30-something York Region woman who recently visited Egypt and an Ottawa man in his 40s who just came back from Austria.
Toronto Public Health and Public Health Sudbury are working together to determine where a man in his 50s may have picked up COVID-19 in a case that was confirmed Tuesday. He has no immediately known out-of-country travel history. Officials cannot confirm there is evidence of community spread.
There is concern with his case in particular because he attended the Prospectors and Developers Association in Canada convention in Toronto in early March along with thousands of other guests including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
Ontario health officials will brief reporters at Queen's Park at 2 p.m.
