Ontario's licence plate is getting an extreme makeover.
It's double blue.
In their first budget, the Ford government announced Thursday that the Ministry of Transportation will soon start to manufacture plates with a navy background, partial trillium outline in royal blue and the alpha-numeric registration marker in a white, more modern font.
Ontario PCs don't plan to balance budget until after next election
As previously reported, the 'three guys in a hot tub' trillium the province has used since 2006 is gone in a favour of a previous, cleaner design. Gone too is the tag line' Yours to Discover' in favour of 'A Place to Grow', taken from the song "A Place to Stand" which was part of a documentary played at the Ontario pavilion during Expo 67. The song was refreshed in 2017 for Ontario's 150th anniversary.
Letters and numbers on the new-look licence plates will be printed rather than stamped, a change that officials say should prevent them from peeling.
A fresh design of the Ontario driver's licence is on the way but will be presented and detailed some time down the road.
