Longtime MPP Jim Wilson has abruptly resigned.
Premier Doug Ford's office sent out a notice just before 6:30 p.m. advising that, efective immediately, Wilson has step down as Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade and is also leaving the PC Caucus.
Ford's office says Wilson is taking time to seek treatment for addiction issues.
Wilson, who represented the riding of Simcoe-Grey, was first elected in 1990. He served as interim leader and leader of the opposition following the resignation of Tim Hudak and was replaced by Patrick Brown.
He just appeared with Ford in Sarnia this morning for the unveiling of Ontario's "open for business" signs that will be posted at the border.
Government House Leader Todd Smith will take over the portfolio in the interim.
