The provincial government says it will no longer fund major campus expansions for three universities.
It means plans to build new college-partnership campuses for York University, Ryerson University, and Wilfrid Laurier University have all been scrapped by Doug Ford's Ontario PC's.
Word of the move came on Tuesday evening through a written statement issued by the Minister of Training, Colleges, and Universities.
Merrilee Fullerton says scrapping the expansion plans was a decision that needed to be made in light of a mult-billion dollar budget deficit left over from the previous Liberal government.
The new campuses would have provided roughly 8,000 post-secondary education spaces in Brampton, Markham, and Milton.
The government says pulling the funding will save an estimated $308 million.
