Police say that distracted driving continues to be the leading cause of accidents on OPP-patrolled roads.
So far this year, there have been more than 6,300 collisions in which driver inattention was reported.
That is compared to 4,700 crashes caused by speed, and just over 1,100 accidents involving alcohol or drugs.
OPP say that 47 people have died so far because of distracted driving.
That number is up from 39 deaths this time last year.
Police are launching a distracted driving campaign on Friday, ahead of school starting up again next week.
"Our collision data is compelling evidence that drivers who text, talk on their cell phone or are distracted in some other way, take a tremendous toll on the safety of those who share the road with them," OPP commissioner Vince Hawkes says.
Police advise that you keep your cell phone out of sight while you are driving. If you need to use it, pull over to a safe location.
