The OPP have officially laid charges against two Ontario Liberals in an alleged bribery case.
Liberal party CEO Pat Sorbara is facing two charges of bribery, and Liberal fundraiser Gerry Lougheed is facing one charge of bribery.
The two were accused of bribery leading up the 2015 byelection in Sudbury. Mortgage broker Andrew Olivier claims they tried to offer him a job if he stepped aside for a preferred candidate.
Premier Kathleen Wynne told reporters Tuesday that once charges are laid, Sorbara would be stepping aside from her current role with the Liberal party.
Wynne was grilled by reporters and the opposition parties at Queen's Park. She refused to directly answer if she had any role in the alleged bribery. The premier has in the past said the two Liberals were only trying to find out what kind of opportunities a failed candidate would be interested in.
PC leader Patrick Brown is calling on Wynne to step aside as premier during the investigation.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath is asking the premier to promise that Sorbara will have no position within the Liberal party until the investigation is complete.
