The OPP say the number of deaths caused by speed and aggressive driving is up nearly two-fold over this time last year.
So far, 27 people have been killed on provincial highways due to those two factors, compared to 15 last year.
OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt isn't quite sure why it's been so bad this year but says, "whatever the reason is, if people are running late or people are being frustrated, or pushing themselves out on the highways, obviously the consequences can be deadly."
There is also increasing concern as the warmer weather moves in and there are more sports cars and motorcycles out on the roads.
"We don't want to see that kind of a trend continue," Schmidt says.
The penalties for speeding and aggressive driving can be hefty. Depending on the offence, fines can run into the thousands of dollars and in some cases drivers can face a license suspension.
