Organizers say criticism from members of the LGBTQ community has lead them to postpone a concert meant to heal following the arrest of alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur.
A statement from the organizers read in part "Our intention was to bring the city together in love and healing after hearing from many people who wanted to come together in unity and strength."
"Unfortunately, the event created an unintentional division at a historic time when the LGBTQ2S community needs to be unified."
#LoveWins was planned for March 29 at Nathan Phillips Square, with a lineup that featured Carole Pope and members of the Barenaked Ladies, the Forte Toronto Gay Men's Chorus and winners of CTV's ``The Launch'' music competition series.
The press release for #LoveWins said the event was "more of a love letter to the community than a vigil."
A poster promoting the concert had been taken down from the LoveWins Facebook page as of Thursday night. It didn't mention McArthur by name but referenced ``the series of killings that have rocked Toronto's LGBTQ community.''
The event was organized, in part, by Cineplex Media President Salah Bachi and Ward 29 Coun. Kristyn Wong-Tam.
Wong-Tam told The Canadian Press last week "It was never meant to be (anything) ... other than a space of healing."
