Ottawa's mayor says his city will do all it can to prevent a terror attack when it hosts Canada's 150th birthday, but Jim Watson admits that no amount of preparation can guarantee 100 per cent safety.
Watson says it's sad, but true, that Canada could be the target of the same kind of terror attack that killed seven people in London on Saturday, including a B-C woman.
With Ottawa preparing to host one of the largest ever Canada Day celebrations on July 1st, Watson says there will be an extra security measures and a noticeable police presence.
He suggests that heavy equipment such as dump trucks will be placed strategically to protect against a possible attack involving the use of a vehicle.
Liberal MP David McGuinty, who's to chair a new, top-level national security committee, says the federal government is also consulting with communities across Canada on their Canada Day security requirements.
Municipal leaders across the country observed a moment of silence Sunday in honour of those killed in London.
