Parents at one Toronto school are concerned the site is unsafe for their children after a piece of construction scaffolding fell onto the head of a kindergarten student Monday morning.
The student was standing in the playground below at Palmerston Avenue Junior Public School.
The little girl was taken to hospital where she recieved stitches and may have suffered a concussion.
A parent tells CTV News the girl is home recovering.
Parents tell CTV News for months they have been worried about construction at the Annex area elementary school.
Work started last May on the building which houses the daycare and kindergarten classroom and was supposed to wrap up in the Fall.
The Ministry of Labour was on site Wednesday and for now all construction has been paused.
TDSB spokesperson Ryan Bird tells CTV News "We've made sure it's safe right now, but we've taken the extra precaution of pausing all work to ensure we get even more assurances that something like this can't happen again."
CTV News reports an internal investigation is underway by the construction company doing the work.
CTV News reports parents are not satisfied and have written a letter to the school board, ministry and other stakeholders demanding assurances of safety and that the work will be completed as soon as possible.
CTV News also reports the principal of the school sent out a letter to parents Wednesday afternoon that said construction is slated to restart Monday, January 22 and weather permitting it should be done in one week.
