A trucker accused of causing a deadly, 12-vehicle pile-up on Highway 400 won't have his case back in a courtroom until early next year.
It was a brief hearing on Wednesday for the 35-year old who was involved in a crash last June that wiped out 3 generations of the same family.
Lawyers are still waiting for complete disclosure of the evidence against the accused.
Sarbjit Singh Matharu of Winnipeg is charged with four counts of criminal negligence causing death, and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The crash claimed the lives of 5-year old Isabela Kuci and her mother, 35-year-old Valbona Vokshi.
Also killed in the crash were Isabela's 55-year old grandmother Xhemile Vokshi, as well as 27-year old Seneca College grad Maria Lipska.
Members of the Vokshi family huddled on the steps of the Old City Courthouse after watching the brief court hearing unfold.
Valbona's sister, Blerta Vokshi, clutched framed photographs of her loved ones in happier times, including one from a brilliant, sunny day at Canada's Wonderland, where the family happened to be driving back from on the night of the crash.
She expressed a hope that her loss might lead to reform in Ontario's trucking sector.
The family's lawyer says her clients are waiting patiently for the case to make its way through the justice system.
Sandra Zisckind of Diamond & Diamon Law says the Vokshi's, who recently immigrated to Canada from Romania, have been devastated by the loss.
It is expected the family will launch a lawsuit after more details about the case emerge in court.
