A pedestrian has been charged in a crash that police say she's lucky to have survived.
Toronto Police const. Clint Stibbe says the woman was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross six lanes of Hwy 27 south of Albion Rd at about midnight Tuesday.
The 32-year-old is charged with failing to use a crosswalk, an offence that carries a $50 penalty. Stibbe could not say how far away the woman was from the crosswalk when she was hit.
The woman remains in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
But Stibbe suggests it's remarkable
"Any time we look at a collision, speed is a factor. Anything over 30 kilometres per hour the chances of a pedestrian or cyclist dying as a result of being involved in a collision increases greatly."
Stibbe says if a pedestrian or cyclist by a vehicle going 60 km/h, they will "almost certainly" die.
Though it's not clear how fast the vehicle that hit the woman on Hwy 27 was going, the posted speed limit is 70 km/h.
