The Peel Police Services Board has named Chris McCord as their interim Police Chief, Thursday morning.
McCord will take over for Jennifer Evans, who is retiring after a 35-year career with the force.
McCord began his policing career in Northern Ireland and immigrated to Canada in 1988. He began working for Peel Regional Police upon his arrival and served as Deputy Director of the Unified Command Centre in Barrie during the G20 meetings in June 2010.
He has served as Deputy Chief since November 2012.
Peel officials say Evans' final day on the job is January 11, after which McCord will take over on an interim basis.
The search for a permanent Police Chief continues.
"The Board is committed to creating engagement opportunities for citizens, employees, and community partners to share their thoughts," police say in a media release.
The board will be posting updates throughout the search and hiring process.
