Police west of Toronto say officers rescued a seven-year-old boy who was hanging from a sixth floor balcony.
Peel police say the boy was playing near the window in the apartment building in Mississauga, when he slipped Friday.
They say his mother was able to grab his hand but was losing her grip on him.
Police say officers entered the unit and pulled him to safety.
Const. Alvin Bailey was first on scene and told CTV News he had to act quickly.
"She(mother) advised me his shirt was ripping so after I heard that I knew there wasn't much time."
Two other officers, including Const. Shaun Stanley, arrived shortly to help in the rescue.
"He was able to reach over the mother and I was able to reach through the left side broken window and pull the child back up through the right side broken window."
A couple of the officers suffered cuts and required stitches.
Const. Stanley got emotional as he described the moment the boy was pulled to safety.
"Once he came through the window I was okay. Not until he was through the window, it wasn't okay until then."
Peel Deputy Police Chief Marc Andrews praised the officers, calling them ``everyday heroes.''
They say the child was not hurt.
