We have an update to a story we've been following, involving that nearly four-minute long racist tirade caught on camera at a T & T Supermarket in Mississauga last week, after a customer was reportedly asked to wear a face mask.
Peel Police have identified the suspect wanted in what police are calling a "hate incident".
Constable Kyle Villers tells Newstalk1010 that a summons has been issued for a 48 year-old man.
"Investigators have identified the male in the video as a John McCash, a 48 year-old man from Mississauga and as a result of the investigation, a summons has been issued for the offence of causing a disturbance."
It was on Sunday, July 5th that McCash is alleged to have entered a supermarket near Central Parkway West and Grand Park Drive in Mississauga.
He was reportedly not wearing a mask and was asked by employees to put one on because it's the current store policy.
Police say he became agitated and began yelling, making negative and disparaging comments about the heritage of staff members.
He was repeatedly asked to leave the store, which he eventually did.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah issued a statement, following the incident: "Hate crime incidents impact our community, creating a ripple effect. It can increase feelings of vulnerability, anxiety, and fear, not only on the individual who has directly been victimized but, as we have seen with this incident, on the broader community. Reporting hate crime is essential to stopping these incidents; we are committed to pursuing these incidents."
Constable Villers says police hope that if Mr. McCash sees his name appear in the media, that he will go to any station in the Region of Peel, so that they can bring this incident to a close.
