A 17-year veteran of the Peel Regional Police force is now facing charges after a five-month investigation.
Sgt. Eric Malone was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of theft under 5,000, one count of theft over 5,000 and one count of Breach of Trust.
Police say it's related to an on-duty incident that occured in April 2016 in Mississauga, but allegations were only brought forward by a member of the public in June of this year.
"Public trust, respect and transparency are among our core values and our officers are expected to uphold those values as outlined in our Code of Ethics," chief Jennifer Evans said in a statement. "Upon learning of these allegations I immediately ordered an internal investigation and suspended the officer."
Malone has been suspended with pay under the Police Services Act and will appear in court December 17th.
