Peel Regional Police have busted a large drug trafficking and importation ring.
Ten people were arrested and face 80 charges, following an eight-month-long Joint Forces Operation led by Peel Regional Police.
The investigation began in the fall of 2017, focusing on a group of individuals who were operating within the Region of Peel, involved in a number of criminal offences that included drug trafficking and importation, the trafficking of stolen property and fraud.
The investigation also revealed the criminal activity also included the GTA and south-western Ontario and connections to the United States and Pakistan.
Last Thursday Peel Police simultaneous executed search warrants across the province.
The 10 charged were from Brampton, Kitchener and Woodstock.
Chief Jennifer Evans praised the work of the Joint Forces in taking the operation down.
“These arrests exemplify the excellent work our officers are doing to take drugs off the street and to put criminals behind bars. I want to thank Peel Regional Police investigators and all the member agencies for their involvement in this project. Criminal operations today are borderless, and the partnerships we have are vital to our success."
The Joint Forces that worked alongside Peel Regional Police included Toronto and York Regional Police, as well as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
