The federal payout to Omar Khadr is now a major news item in some conservative US media outlets after a former Canadian Conservative cabinet minister wrote an article about the case in the Wall Street Journal.
Peter Kent's piece is entitled, "A Terrorist's Big Payday, Courtesy of Trudeau."
The story was a top item on the Fox News website, where one network host called the reported $10.5M payout Khadr received from the Canadian government "repulsive."
Former US presidential candidate Herman Cain adds that Canada has "basically rewarded a murderer." Khadr is considered by many to have caused the death of a US soldier in Afghanistan in 2002.
In the article, Kent criticized the Trudeau government for settling with Khadr while the victim's family got nothing. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last week that he understands and shares concerns Canadians have with the reported, but that the cost would have been higher had the government not settled.
