A Toronto doctor has been arrested by police for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl in his office.
Police say they launched an investigation into the trafficking of the teenager, and learned of a man having sexual encounters with her.
They allege that the man met the girl online in December of 2016 through an escort ad.
The man allegedly paid to have unprotected sex with the teen and met with her at various hotels in the city in the months that followed.
Investigators say that on one occasion, he invited her to come to his workplace at the Toronto General Hospital and they allegedly had sex in his office.
Police also allege that after the encounters he would prescribe her birth control prescriptions and would inject her with the medication.
32-year-old Ernest Chiu, a kidney doctor, has been charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, obtaining sexual services from someone under 18, and sexual assault.
The University Health Network, which runs Toronto General, tells NEWSTALK 1010 in a statement that Chiu has not worked at any UHN hospital since the summer.
"This is extremely upsetting and we will fully cooperate with Toronto Police in their investigation," the statement reads.
