York police are reminding residents to protect their properties after six men were arrested in two separate residential break-and-enter investigations.
The incidents happened in the days before Christmas in Markham.
On Friday, December 22nd, at about 5:30 p.m., a resident of the area of Carlton and Kennedy Rds called 911 to report three suspicious men they saw driving from one residence to another, going into the backyard or to the front door.
When officers responded, they found the vehicle with two men inside. They had to chase the third suspect down. Al three were arrested and charged, and police say they found stolen property and break-and-enter tools.
The next day, police got another 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. to the area of Warden Ave and Hwy 7.
The caller reported seeing three men in a backyard.
Police sent a helicopter and were able to observe the suspects, while passing on the information to officers on the ground.
The three men were arrested, and police say they once again found stolen property and break-and-enter tools.
"I am very proud of the professional and diligent efforts of our officers in these incidents. I am also proud of the strong partnerships we have within our community," chief Eric Jolliffe writes in a statement. "It is as a result of calls from concerned citizens that we are able to respond so quickly and effectively. These arrests will have a very significant impact on the safety of our community."
