A 43-year-old Pickering woman has been charged with drunk driving after police say they found her sitting in a badly damaged car.
Callers to 911 told police there were sparks flying from under a car that had hit a curb near Yonge St and 16th Ave in Richmond Hill early Friday morning.
Police say they found the vehicle parked in a nearby plaza, with the driver inside.
All the tires were blown out, according to police, and there was damage to the windshield and passenger side mirror.
Officers say there was also fluid pouring from the car.
When the driver got out, police say she was unsteady and smelled of alcohol.
A 43-year-old woman has been charged with impaired driving.
York police say they have arrested 27 drunk drivers in the past week.
