Toronto's police chief has decided to put a hold on the rollout of new cruisers until they can complete consultations.
The service began replacing its old fleet of police cars with vehicles that have a new paint job - grey and white, instead of red, white and blue.
Some people have complained that the new vehicles are not visible enough, which chief Mark Saunders has denied.
Saunders told CBC last month he did not give deep thought into ordering the new colour, a decision he can make on his own without board approval.
Yesterday, city council voted in favour of asking the board to do a full review.
Councillor Michael Thompson, who moved the motion, says he's heard from residents who think the new vehicles look militaristic.
"They view it largely negatively," Thompson says. "We want to make the community feel that the police and the vehicles are approachable."
In a statement, chief Saunders says he will consult the public before reporting back to the board.
