Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders says there will likely be more raids on marijuana dispensaries in the city.
This comes just a day after a series of recommendations were released by the federal government's task force on legalization.
Among them, the task force suggested using the current medical marijuana distribution system, at least to start.
Saunders told CP24 that the law requires a Health Canada licence to sell marijuana legally.
"Health Canada only issues to certain distributors," Saunders said. "The dispensaries are not one of them. If it's a dispensary then it is not legal."
He says Toronto Police will continue to enforce the law.
When asked directly if more raids are expected, Saunders said, "most likely, yes."
The government has promised to table legislation by spring 2017.
