A Toronto community reeling since a random shooting earlier this month has yet to hear from Police Chief Mark Saunders.
Neighbours in the area of Scarlett Road and Lawrence Avenue have said they are too afraid to leave their homes, let their children play outside, or answer their front doors.
Nnamdi Ogba, 26, was shot to death on March 16th and investigators have said it appears to have been a "random encounter."
Mayor John Tory attended a vigil last week.
When asked if he had gone to the neighbourhood to help ease the fears of people living there, Chief Saunders says he hasn't. "The most important thing is that they're safe and I have definitely ensured that the right resources are there. Making sure that I am updated on the investigation is critical and making sure that we have that opportunity, if we have to have a conversation, to see what we can do to help make people feel safe is important."
Saunders wouldn't elaborate on what resources have been put in place for the community. "That's something that I never give. I would not give my playbook to the criminal elements."
When asked if he would be planning a visit to the Scarlett Road and Lawrence Avenue.
