Hamilton Police have confirmed the victim of an early morning drowning in Hamilton's harbour is former NHL goalie Ray Emery.
Emery, 35, was best known for leading the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup Final in 2007. More recently, he played for the Toronto Marlies.
Investigators say they were called to the harbour area just after 6 a.m. Sunday after a man in his 30s jumped off a boat to go for a swim and didn't resurface.
"The circumstances surrounding that still are part of the investigation, and all those details will remain to be uncovered by our investigators," Insp. Marty Schulenberg said at a news conference Sunday afternoon.
"We're asking anybody with any information around that to certainly contact our detectives."
Hamilton Police were assisted by the Niagara Regional Police Dive Unit in the search.
Emery's body was located at about 2:50 p.m. about 70 feet from the point he was last seen.
The investigation is continuing with a post-mortem scheduled for Monday.
Police say they do not believe any foul play was involved and it was likely a case of misadventure.
