Toronto police have decided to deploy four neighbourhood officers to keep a close eye on the Church and Wellesley neighbourhood.
Business owners and residents have been complaining the past year of an increase in street violence in the area and they have been asking police to step up patrols.
The officers will dedicate their time to that area starting this Sunday.
"It's a big win for the community," says local councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam.
Wong-Tam says she has heard complaints about public disorder, assaults and harassment, often involving people with mental health or drug addiction issues.
"Whether they're from the neighbourhood or not is not necessarily clear to me," she says.
The councillors says the officers will focus on community-based policing, spending more time on foot, getting to know the residents and local issues.
She admits it is a bandaid solution, with more permanent solutions needed like affordable housing, mental health supports and social services.
