Police in Durham Region are working on the premise that an attack in Whitby was a hate crime.
It happened last Saturday night around 9:30pm, in a public washroom at Haydenshore Park, on Brock Street.
Allegations are a white man launched a barrage of hateful threats at a 22-year old Muslim man before punching him in the face.
The young man was not seriously hurt.
It will be Crown prosecutors who make the final call on whether or not to proceed with hate crime charges, if and when the suspect is caught.
Police would not share details on what those threats were, but they say all the signs of a hate crime seem to be there.
Const. George Tudos says the suspect is described as a white man with a medium build who looks to be in his 40's or 50's.
He's got messy blonde hair, possibly a ring in one ear, and was riding away on a bicycle with bullhorn handlebars.
Anyone who saw what happened should contact police or Crime Stoppers.
