Police are investigating a daylight shooting in downtown Toronto.
Police say two groups exchanged gunfire just after 11:30 a.m. this morning in the area of Front Street West and John Street.
One group was on foot, the other in a vehicle that fled the scene. No injuries have been reported.
Inspector Norm Proctor confirms that the shooting is connected to a crash that happened in the area.
"We're very early in the investigation right now and still trying to work things out, but it appears that two groups exchanged some gunfire - one group on foot and another group in a white Mazda sedan. Again, descriptions are very faint at this point. We don't have alot to give out....There was a black Mazda involved, which ended up going northbound on Blue Jays Way. That vehicle was involved in an accident and one of those occupants fled the scene."
Officers have recovered several shell casings in the area. The police canine unit is also at the scene.
There's no word on suspects.
Several streets in the area remain closed to traffic as the investigation continues: Front Street West is closed both ways from John Street to Blue Jays Way. Also closed in both directions is Blue Jays Way from Wellington Street West to Front Street.
