Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a newborn baby along the shoreline of Lake Ontario in Pickering.
Officers were called to the area of Frisco and Montgomery Park roads around 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon, after a citizen came across human remains.
"Our homicide team has been here at the scene and they have taken carriage of this investigation, so we have a large area of the park that's gonna be closed off and this is for our teams, which will be coming in, whether it's tonight or tomorrow morning to do a further search of the immediate area to look for any clues or any evidence that can help our investigators," said Acting Sergeant George Tudos.
A post-mortem examination will be done in the days ahead.
A section of the waterfront trail has been sealed off, while police investigate.
